Ride to Bournemouth Pier (updated 10.12.19)

11 December, 2019 @ 10:00 am - 1:30 pm

UPDATE 10.12.19 (Mel)

Oh dear! The forecast for Wednesday is “clear turning to heavy rain by late morning”! It looks most likely that the weather front will hit us here about 11am. – then wet well into afternoon, so sitting in a beachfront cafe waiting for the rain to stop (and knowing it won’t!) doesn’t sound very attractive does it! Sorry Mike and Sue, I was looking forward to it but I can’t see it being very well attended, however, if you want to chance it, I’ll bring the radios ’round for 10?  The first reasonable day looks like Friday and David has volunteered to take us to the Riva, 10 at the Castle as usual.  Sorry pals, but again, we have to expect this in Winter….it will get better!  Soggy days!

Mike Chapman will lead a ride to Bournemouth Pier.

Ride to Bournemouth pier where there are a choice of coffee stops or even the ‘Observation wheel’ to have a ride on??
As it’s the day before the election and I am the leader, I can promise you:
  • Beautiful weather
  • Free drinks provided by BCP council at no cost to the ratepayer
  • Downhill all the way in both directions
However, Sue and I rode the route today and in reality:
  • It’s 11 miles each way
  • I will lead along the usual route from the Castle through the nature reserve, quay, Stanpit, left before the castle, Quomps path, bridge (in small groups?), Wick, past the school to the Overcliff, Boscombe Pier, Bournemouth Pier via overcliff roads (gradual climbs and steep descents) on the way there, return along the prom (Overcliff climbs on the way back are too steep!)
  • There was some sand on the prom but not too much
  • The weather forecast is for sunshine and showers – if we get more showers than sunshine, there are plenty of options for cutting it short
  • The Ferris Wheel (Observation Wheel) is open from 11:00 and costs £6:00
  • I’d hoped the Christmas Market with ‘Vin Chaud’ would be close. It’s not!
  • As you all know the way, we can split and rejoin if some prefer to avoid: Mud in the Nature reserve, Hills on the Overcliff, Sand on the prom, each other?
Meet at the Castle on Wednesday 11th in time to leave at 10:00, Back about 1:30.
Mike
